► Meet the Trustees

The External Trustees of Coventry University Students’ Union

There are 5 external trustees of CUSU, one of whom is nominated by the University’s Board of Governors. All these trustees are approved by the Union Council and will serve terms of office of two to three years.

Duncan Goose formed Global Ethics in 2004, a company whose primary aim is to raise funds for humanitarian projects in developing countries. Duncan launched the One Foundation, a sustainable charity based on creating partnerships between brands, retailers and charities. Duncan was also student at Coventry University.


Phil Dunn is Manager of Coventry North West Area for Coventry City Council, a former president of Lanchester Polytechnic and student governor. Phil has played a leading role in building relations between the local community, the University, students and CUSU.

Ama Uzowuru has finished her second year of office as Vice President Welfare of the National Union of Students (2007-09). She has recently taken up a post with the charity Comic Relief. Ama was a Vice President Education & Welfare and then the President of CUSU.

Ian McNay is Emeritus Professor of Higher Education Management at Greenwich University. Ian has been a leading member of the Society for Research into Higher Education (SRHE), an editor of the SRHE Abstracts journal and has written and edited many books on Higher Education, including Higher Education and Its Communities (2000) and Higher Education and Human Good (2006)

Mike Short is the nominee of the Board of Governors. He is Vice President for Group Research and Development of Telefonica O2 Europe. He is also Chairman of the UK Mobile Data Association and a Director of UK Premium Rate Regulator Phonepayplus. Mike was the Treasurer of the Lanchester Polytechnic Students’ Union and graduated in Economics.
