ARTICLE 1: NAME
The name of the society will be Coventry Somali Students (CSS).
ARTICLE 2: OBJECTIVES
1. The aims and objectives of the CSS society will include, but will not be limited to the following:
a) To promote unity among Somali students at
b) To co-ordinate Somali students at
c) To act as liaison between Somali students at Coventry University and all central student governments, college councils, the administration of Coventry and other external authorities and/or affiliated bodies.
d) To develop and maintain through elections, responsible Executives to serve as the governing body of the Society which will promote the interests of their members.
ARTICLE 3: INTERPRETATION
For the avoidance of doubt, in this constitution unless the context otherwise requires:
1. The Executive Council and all Members will be expected to obey the "Constitution".
a) "Society" will mean Somali Students' Society at
b) "Executives" will mean the elected officers of the society.
c) "President" will mean the President of the society.
d) "University" will mean
e) "Members" will mean all registered members who are entitled to vote at any meeting of the society, except executive meetings.
f) "Committee" will mean 5 elite members of the Coventry Somali Students (Founders), elected by the Executives and officials of the CSS society, who sole purpose is to function as a complaints committee.
g) "Officials" will mean members of the CSS society who have non-official responsibilities role by only helping the society’s events.
2. If there is a "Crisis", the executives will meet alone and will come up with a proposal for a solution. Then, the administration will call an emergency meeting and notify all members. The final decision, based on the proposals, will be made by all members through voting with majority.
ARTICLE 4: MEMBERSHIP
1. Membership will be open to all
2. All members will be required to pay an annual fee as may be determined
and agreed upon by a majority of the members of the Association at a general meeting from time to time. Membership fee can not exceed £5.00 unless otherwise is stated by the SU (Student Union of Coventry University.
3. Members of the society will endeavour to:
a) Participate actively in the work of the society;
b) Guard against the misuse of the CSS Society and its property for selfish purposes.
ARTICLE 5: STRUCTURE OF THE GOVERNING BODY
1. The supreme governing body of the society will be the President of the society, who will elect four officers to represent the society various functions. Such elected officers will constitute the Executive Council of the CSS Society who will be jointly and severally subject to and accountable to the members and the constitution of the society.
2. The Executive Council will consist of the President, the Vice President(s), the Secretary and the Treasurer.
November to 21st November of the following year, at which date their tenure of office ends unless otherwise re-elected for another term by the members.
4. The term of office of the members of the Executive Council will coincide with the fiscal year of the society, which will commence on the 21st of November of each year, and end on the 21st of November of the following year.
ARTICLE 6: DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
1. The Executive Council will perform all duties imposed on them by the members of the society. Without restricting, excluding or limiting the power of members, such duties will include, but will not be limited to:
a) Receiving and administering all funds accruing to the society from membership fees, donations, gifts, bequests and all other sources without any considerations for personal gain, but in the best interests of the society and to promote its stated objectives;
b) Acting diligently and honestly at all times in the exercise of their functions as Executives;
c) Administering the property and affairs of the society in the best interest of the society, and;
d) Convening the meetings of the society.
2. The President of the CSS society will be the Chair of the Executive Council, unless otherwise agreed between the members of the Executive Council, the Committee and the Purposer of the Coventry Somali Students (CSS) in
