Welcome
Thank you for your interest in receiving volunteers from Volunteering and Employability at Coventry University Students’ Union (CUSU). We work in partnership with local community organisations, charities and schools to provide volunteers with course, career and interest related volunteering opportunities.
How we can help
Volunteers – we aim to provide you with student and/or staff volunteers from Coventry University who can benefit of your organisation and contribute to fulfilling the needs of the local community. Our volunteers are from a range of backgrounds and cultures, many of which are international students from all over the world who have a wide variety of skills and experience.
Support – we offer ongoing support throughout the academic year. This can include helping you to promote and develop volunteering opportunities, mediating between the volunteer and your organisation if a problem occurs, carrying out CRB checks for volunteers if you request us to, accommodating requests for room bookings within CUSU and keeping in contact with you to answer any questions and address any concerns you may have.
Promoting your volunteering opportunities
We can promote your volunteering opportunities in a variety of ways including:
Volunteering and Community Fair – each year during Fresher’s Week we hold a Volunteering and Community Fair which aims to showcase the variety of volunteering opportunities available and is a great opportunity for you to raise awareness and recruit volunteers.
Organisation folder – the organisation folder is kept in the Volunteering & Employability office and is used as a resource for advising volunteers of the opportunities available to them. The folder contains a profile for each of the organisations registered with us, detailing the opportunity, requirements and the organisations contact details.
Website – all of the ongoing volunteering opportunities we offer to students are available online, including information about one off events and activities.
Email Opportunity updates & Facebook – each week we send out an email to advertise new and one- off opportunities to all of the volunteers registered on our database and CUSU Volunteering Employability Facebook. Please feel free to send through any information you would like to be included.
Induction sessions – we offer volunteers Induction Sessions to prepare students for their volunteering and answer any questions they may have. We can also book meeting rooms for you here at CUSU (depending on availability) to meet, recruit and train volunteers on campus.
Volunteer Guide & notice boards – we can promote your organisation in our Volunteer Guide and on our notice boards. We can also display any posters, leaflets or other promotional materials you may have.
How to register with us
You will need to fill in an Ongoing Volunteer Request Form for long term volunteering opportunities or a One-Off Volunteer Request Form for any short term volunteering projects, events or activities. The information you provide will help us to better inform volunteers about your organisation, the volunteering opportunities available, and the support you provide. As soon as we receive this form we can then start promoting your organisation.
Once a partnership has been set up, we will signpost volunteers to you, depending on their skills, interests and time commitments. Please ensure that volunteers are suitable for the role and arrange any necessary screening checks and training. If your organisation is unable to carry out a CRB check, please let us know as we may be able to process it for you.
Volunteers will contact you directly and we will also pass onto you the details of any volunteers who have shown in an inertest in your organisation on a weekly basis. You may wish to make contact with the prospective volunteers and send them any further information relevant to the role.
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Phone: 024 7679 5210 Email: volunteering.su@coventry.ac.uk
We hope to hear from you soon and we look forward to developing a mutually beneficial partnership to support the needs of the volunteer and your organisation alike.
