The Care Leavers Community works to support students from a care leaver background, those who are estranged from their family, or are asylum seekers.

Coventry University is increasingly accessible to students from a care leaver background, those who are estranged from their family, or are asylum seekers. The Care Leavers Community works to ensure that CUSU and Coventry University fully support these students,and promote awareness and acceptance that students may not come from a stereotypical background.

A patchy picture: support for care leavers in higher education

Universities minister Chris Skidmore recently outlined the government’s expectations on the level of support all universities should be providing for care leavers to help them progress to, and succeed in higher education.
In March, he announced the new ‘Higher Education Principles’ calling on universities to do more for young people leaving care.
A few short months later, the Centre for Social Justice and First Star Academies UK launched their new report on care leavers ‘12by24.

'There's a lot of stigma': why do so few care leavers go to university?

The government is asking universities to step up their support for care leavers, but they can be hard to reach
