Autumn Election 2021

The Autumn Election for the positions of NUS Conference Delegates and Coventry University London Campus Officer

The polls have closed.

NUS Conference Delegate (Coventry) (5 places)

CUSU are looking for students to represent the entire CU Group at the NUS National Conference in Liverpool! This is the largest student conference in the United Kingdom and you could be a delegate. There are 7 places available or Coventry based students.

NUS National Conference Delegate 

  • Represent Coventry University Group students on behalf of Coventry University Students’ Union at the NUS National Conference  
  • These delegates act as a focal point to put Coventry Students’ Viewpoints onto the National Conference stage. 
  • Collect feedback from students across Coventry University Group in order to inform motions to take to conference 
  • Feedback on the outcomes and decisions made at NUS National Conference to CUSU Council and produce a short report to be publicised to students 
  • There are 12 delegate positions in total, of which 6 positions are reserved for self-defining women (as required by the NUS Gender Balancing Policy). 
  • One delegate position is reserved for the President of the Students' Union. This position will act as the lead delegate
  • Three delegate positions are reserved for students from Coventry University London Campus or CU London. 
  • One delegate position is reserved for a student from CU Scarborough 
  • The remaining seven delegate positions are for students from CU Coventry and Coventry University Coventry Campus. 

CUSU will provide travel, accommodation and an allowance for food for this event. 

Full training will also be provided. 

Candidates must be available from Monday 28th - Tuesday 29th of March 2022 in order to attend. Conference which is scheduled to take place in Liverpool. Candidates should remain aware that this Conference may take place digitally pending on updates to COVID-19 regulations. 

Candidates must also be available on Friday 26th of November for a policy writing session in Coventry. For those travelling from London transport will be provided. For those travelling from Scarborough transport and overnight accommodation (Friday - Saturday) would be provided.

Coventry University London Campus Officer

The Campus Officer is a volunteer who is the lead representative for all students at Coventry University London. They bring together the work of the Campus Executive Team and act as the primary spokesperson for all students at every level with the University, Students’ Union and wider community to ensure that everyone is represented and can shape their university experience. Duration of Role: 03/01/21 – 30/06/22

Coventry University London Campus Officer Role Description 

Duration of Role: 03/01/22 – 30/06/22 

 

Role Purpose: 

The Campus Officer is a volunteer who is the lead representative for all students at Coventry University London. They bring together the work of the Campus Executive Team and act as the primary spokesperson for all students at every level with the University, Students’ Union and wider community to ensure that everyone is represented and can shape their university experience.  

 

Role Specific Responsibilities:  

  • Be the public facing spokesperson for the Students’ Union at Coventry University London 

  • Lead the Campus Executive and support its team of volunteers 

  • Represent Coventry University London at cross campus meetings 

  • Chair Campus Executive Meetings (8 per Year) 

 

Officer Responsibilities: 

  • Uphold the democratic principles of the Students’ Union 

  • Represent the views and interests of every student at Coventry University London 

  • Support the Students’ Union to develop its offering to students  

  • Organise and support activities relevant to students at Coventry University London  

  • Support all student representatives to ensure all feedback is addressed 

  • Work with the Students’ Union to complete your manifesto pledges 

 

What’s Involved:  

Typically, Officers spend around 4 hours a week volunteering in their role. This will mostly be through representing students in meetings, campaigning on specific issues, running activities or events and talking to students to gather feedback. It is a unique experience which can be as much, or as little as your make of it. Beyond a few core meetings you must attend, you get to decide how to focus your time as an Officer representing students and completing your manifesto.  

 

What Support is there:  

As an Officer you won’t be alone in the role! There is a team of full-time staff in the Students’ Union  who are there to support you to deliver the role and develop your personal skills.

How to Apply:  

Only current students at Coventry University London who will continue to be a student in the 2021-22 academic year between the 17th of January 2022 to the 30th of June 2022 may apply for this role.  

 

To apply, simply go to https://covunilondon.cusu.org/elections and start your application by 17:00 on the 7th of November. You’ll then have until the 10th of November to submit a manifesto explaining to students what you’d do to represent them and why they should vote for you. Voting will then take place for all students from the 16th/18th of March to elect the new Campus Executive Team.   

 

To get the role all you must do is be elected by the students you will represent!
