Spearheaded by Zimbabwean artist and activist Laura Nyahuye, Maokwo is an emerging local arts collective that aims to highlight and support the work of marginalised artists in and around Coventry, with a focus on those from BAME, refugee and migrant backgrounds.
Its launch event, We Are Maokwo, will include free, public workshops on drumming, dance and creative writing, as well as opportunities to view and purchase work by local artists. The event will culminate in an invite-only panel discussion focused on ways of working towards meaningful diversity and inclusion in the arts.
