Back in March 2021, the UK Government said it was ‘BAME over’ for this 'reductionist idea' of an acronym, which is frequently used to group all ethnic minorities together, standing for 'Black, Asian and Minority Ethnicities'.
Join Indica Norcup (VP Welfare & Inclusion) and Obinna Okereke (VP Education) for this BHM2021 focus group open to Black staff and students across the Coventry University Group, to openly discuss and debate in a safe space the use 'BAME' across the Coventry University group. Results of the focus group will inform the potential renaming of our 'BAME Students Officer' role, alongside a statement which will be taken to the University Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Council in a call for change.
