Hello everyone and welcome to your first sport newsletter for term 2!
I’m Millie Mac and I’m back to report on all the wins and losses that Coventry have earned. I hope you all had a nice rest over Christmas and New Year and are ready to get stuck into sport this term!
The first week of BUCS didn’t see many fixtures played, due to it being very early in the term and also the weather saw a lot of the games called off.
American football have had a fantastic few weeks to say the least! They beat the notorious Warwick at home 28-0! A fantastic result, especially against our well known rivals. They also beat Nottingham Trent yesterday with a magnificent score of 44-13, just in time to settle down and watch the Super bowl last night! Amazing effort boys!
Women’s Basketball had a fantastic week last week with a 58-23 win over University of Nottingham! Amazing effort girls!
Equestrian had a fabulous time, achieving 3rd place as a team and also having 2 of their athletes get a top 10 individual placing. A great achievement!
Golf had an amazing week last week which also saw them bring home the win from our rivals Warwick. A lovely 5-1 result, bodes well for their approaching Varsity Fixture! Great job.
Women’s Hockey also excelled this week with their win against Warwick Ladies 2s, 2-1. Warwick WHO? Love it girls, what a great achievement.
Netball had some success last week too, with their firsts and seconds bringing home the wins! The 1s beat Birmingham City 46-35 and the 2s smashed top of the League Nottingham Trent 49-35! Amazing results girls.
Delighted to say we also had a win for Men’s Rugby Union against Warwick’s Men’s 2s, 27-12. Absolutely smashed it boys well done!
Women’s Volleyball have had an amazing few weeks. On the 23rd they fought hard to come back from 2-0 down to eventually beat Derby and Win 3-2! They demonstrated skill and sheer determination. Fantastic result girls! This week they also rose to victory to beat Derby again 3-0! What a great few weeks for you girls!
Futsal have had some great results the past few weeks. Men’s kept a clean slate against Lincoln, winning 6-0 at home. The ladies beat Oxford Brookes 2-1 away. A fantastic set of results for you guys!
This weekend was also a fantastic one for our Boxing Club. They attended the BUCS Boxing Championships over in Wolverhampton. The boys all fought really well and were a credit to the University. In the end, we achieved 3 silver medals and 1 gold. A fantastic achievement, really well done! Shout out to the sports department who went over to Wolverhampton over the weekend to support the students!
These fantastic results really do encourage our students for the biggest sporting event in the calendar which is just around the corner… VARSITY, which 22nd – 24th Feb! I have attached the Fixture list for you to have a look at. If you aren’t competing already, please have a look and see which ones you can attend. Any support for Coventry will be greatly appreciated!
