Hello everyone and welcome to your SIXTH weekly sport newsletter. Can you believe we’re six weeks into term?!
Millie Mac is back and here again to report on all of our successes and losses from the week. This week we saw over 30 fixtures played for BUCS league and cup rounds. A fairly even week with 17 games at home and the rest playing away. I have to say this was one of the most exciting Wednesday’s of sport I’ve watched this year. So many close results and so much hard work across the board.
This past week saw American Football, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Futsal, Golf, Hockey, Lacrosse, Netball, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Ultimate Frisbee and Volleyball play for BUCS & their cup this week. Despite the losses, we saw some fantastic wins for Coventry along the way too.
At the weekend we saw Men’s Futsal get their first win in their first game VS Loughborough 7-6. An amazing achievement boys, good luck for the weekend!
HUGE shout out has to go to Women’s Football who played in their Cup Game on Monday and beat De Montfort a whopping 10-0! Special mention to Ellie Northcott for her stunning Hat-trick! It was a good Wednesday for Men’s football. Their first team managed to retain their unbeaten title with a 3-1 against Worcester. The 3s also had a huge win 6-2 vs Derby, a great result boys well done!
Men’s Badminton 1s kept their winning streak against Staffordshire, beating them 7-1 and the Ladies 1s also beat Oxford Brookes 3-1. I was delighted to be able to award Men’s Badminton with our ‘Team of the Month’ award for October. Their hard work and effort has been demonstrated in their amazing set of results so far. As well as this, the team has been an absolute pleasure to work with. They always complete any requests I ask of them, always send me photos after the game and have really built up their social media profile. Keep up the good work boys, so proud of you guys!
Men’s Basketball 2s had a huge win away at Aston, beating them 48-55 and Men’s Hockey also had a fantastic win against Birmingham City, 15-0. Amazing efforts boys, well done!
A nail-biting Wednesday for the netball girls. Their first team beat Worcester 45-42 in what was such a close game. But the 2s played an absolute blinder, beating Warwick a close 40-38. Well done you stars, it was so brilliant to watch you all fight for the wins, I’m really proud!
A great day for rugby too. Men’s Rugby League got a huge win 48-20 over Cambridge and clawed their way back to take victory. But the girls were the superstars this Wednesday, with Women’s Rugby Union achieving a clean slate 54-0 against Nottingham Trent. Amazing results guys, very happy with you!
Men’s Tennis played an absolute blinder yesterday beating Leicester 12-0, and Women’s Volleyball also had a clean sheet beating Loughborough 3-0. Really great scores & really great achievements.
Being out and watching a lot of sport yesterday made me realise how much of a privilege it is to have a job like mine and be able to support team Coventry. I just want to say thank you to all of the supporters, staff and students, who go out to support our players. It makes such a difference to have people there cheering team Coventry on, so thank you for giving up the time to support us.
