This year’s National Societies and Volunteering Awards have released their shortlisted nominees and you may see some familiar names mentioned. We are excited and proud to announce that the Student Media Society and Community have been shortlisted for the Wellbeing Award.
In February Student Media held their first-ever 24 Hour Radio Show hosted on Phoenix Radio. This was to mark Phoenix Radio's one year anniversary since becoming live on air, whilst raising money for Papyrus, the UK Charity for the prevention of young suicide.
With a target of raising £100, all expectations were exceeded when it was announced after an exciting 24 hours of what the team call 'chaotic madness and fun' they, in fact, raised an amazing £210. Their strong team of presenters who usually host weekly shows discussing anything from sport to solving your dilemmas worked around the clock to showcase 24 hours of entertainment, from interviews to music, and games. This gave their listeners the opportunity to learn not just more about CUSU Societies and Communities but about Papyrus and how the charity can help those in need.
The students ensured to make sure as many to take part, working hard before the show to offer a multiplatform broadcast, listened and watched by students from around the world on Youtube, the CUSU website and even their own app they had created (which you can still download today)!
Phoenix Radio and Student Media have continued throughout the year to work with incredible organizations locally and even internationally including the World Transplant Games and show great promise for the future. We are so excited their hard work and dedication has been recognised and can't wait to see what else they have in store.
