We all love Coventry, but sometimes change is nice... here are our top five pick on local towns and villages to visit whilst you're here!
Coventry is a wonderful city, but sometimes it's nice to get out of the hustle and bustle and enjoy some fresh countryside air. There are loads of places dotted around Coventry that may offer something different - why not give some of them a go! Here are five of our favourites...
Balsall Common & Berkswell
The smallest of all the places on this list but the closest too, Balsall Common and Berkswell offer country pubs, peaceful walks, medieval buildings and much more. If you need to escape the city for the day, check both out.
Kenilworth
Home to a 12th century castle, Kenilworth is the perfect destination for a Sunday cycle. You can find a host of coffee shops along the high street, or if you are looking for somewhere to go for an evening there are a number of restaurants and pubs for all tastes.
Leamington Spa
One of just 20 spa towns in the UK, Royal Leamington Spa (as is it’s full name) is as pleasant as it’s name suggests. The picturesque Jephson Gardens on the banks of the River Leam is a must see, and the burgeoning central area has restaurants, bars and pubs down every turn.
Warwick
Warwick is home to Warwick Castle – a huge ancient castle which dominates the town centre. There are always events going on there and it’s well worth a visit around Christmastime. There is also the local racetrack, should horse racing be something that interests you – this is the closest one to Coventry by a substantial distance.
Stratford Upon Avon
The birthplace of William Shakespeare, Stratford Upon Avon has cemented itself as a tourist attraction in recent years. People come from around the globe to see Shakespeare’s birthplace in all it’s glory. It helps that the town is really aesthetically pleasing too – with the River Avon running through the middle, it is the perfect place to spend a day in the sun.
