BLOG POST OCTOBER

The month of October is Black History Month, and the UK celebrated it’s 30 years anniversary, we had loads of activities planned for the month. The Movie night which was on the (9th, 16th and 23rd of oct) we did a poll online and got people to vote on the different types of movies to show, and win two tickets to the GALA and all the films showed.

The Movies were (Hidden figures, Sister’s Act, Half of a yellow sun). we had a fashion show and Entertainment Night on the 18th of Oct, it had a good turn out and it was held at square one from 6:30- 10:30pm. It was a night full of culture, music and dance.

We had the Panel Talk Titled: “CLOSING THE BME GAP- WHAT SHOULD THE UNIVERSITY BE DOING NOW”, this was held on the 26th of oct, different Guest speakers were invited, it was very interactive and we ended with the Gala night which was on the 30th of oct, full of music, cultural dancers, awards, spoken word and many more. Every event was very successful and well attended.

I had supported the PG CUSU welcome event, which was very successful as well, and the Sabbs and I also attended the PG students networking event, we met and welcomed most of the PG students to the University, it was a good place to talk about CUSU. I also attended the International welcome event for international students, CUSU had a table over there, the sabbs and I spoke and networked with a lot of students and gave out the freebies from CUSU so they could get more information on what the student’s union offers.

I did a late induction talk for students at the Faculty of EEC, who had arrived late and wanted to find out more information as they had missed out on induction week. In the same month, I got involved in promoting the elections by standing at the stalls to speak to people to nominate themselves and get information about the committee structure. I had worked with Burmun, Salma and Hannah to make a video for women empowerment, encouraging more women to stand in the CUSU elections.

I attended meetings, with the spirituality and faith centre about the carol service that will be coming up and how to get societies to support the service as well, I have also been attending different societies meet and greet and events, and showing support to them and interacting while building a good relationship with the societies committee members.
