So, it’s your first date in a long while and you want to make the best first impression. You’re over the phase of silent awkward cinema dates and a trip to your local for a cold pint surrounded by your parent’s friends with the childhood sweetheart that it never was meant to work out with. It’s time to make a go of it, you didn’t use your last super like or use that cheesy chat up line for everything to turn sour now! Coventry has plenty of perfect first date hotspots to impress your potential new love interest. But how do you whittle it down to the ideal place for you?
Don’t fret we have put together the ultimate first date guide to ensure you have a date so good it could only lead to a second…
A delicious milk chocolate cookie dough with cream
Who needs breakfast at Tiffany’s when you can have cookie dough at Creams? Known for being the best late-night hotspot in Coventry, Creams is the perfect choice for the sweetest of first dates and just a hop skip and jump away from Kasbah, which I am sure you know all too well! You can enjoy anything from toffee butterscotch ice cream to a slice of rainbow cake with the most delicious (albeit sometimes sickly) icing. What could be more romantic than sharing (I’m joking, you don’t have to share) your very own personalised sundae or waffle under the sparkling flecks of a seemingly unexpected glitterball? If your date is a foodie, this is the date for you. And it’s open until late!

Why have to compromise between a food, a leisurely stroll or shopping date when you could do a bit of everything. Not too far from the city centre on Far Gosford street, FarGo Village is a niche date idea that is great for the creative types. You can have a cuppa at The Big Comfy Bookshop or a stroll through the electic range of artwork created by the very best local artists. Who knows you could be looking at Coventry’s very own Picasso? Not taking your fancy yet? Maybe a snack at the Artisan Bakery with a stop-off for something sweet at Choc-n-roll, FarGo’s very own chocolate studio would tempt you. There is something for absolutely everyone at FarGo!
Cheer on Coventry Blaze
The Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey Match at Planet Ice, Snowdome
Where to go on a rainy date? Get down to Planet Ice at the Snowdome and watch Ice Hockey. What could be more exciting than supporting your local team, The Coventry Blaze? Grab a Fanta and a hot dog and become a member of the Blue Army singing along to all the famous chants. It’s the perfect opportunity to see how competitive your date is! Why not grab a puck and see if you can throw it in the truck during half time to win a prize and there’s plenty more exciting half time games. You can get your tickets and more information about when the new season starts on their website.
Nando’s famous chicken and chips
Although you may want to steer clear of the generic date ideas this time around, Nando’s is an absolute classic and who doesn’t love chicken and chips? Located just a minute’s walk away from the Transport Museum it’s the perfect place to go for a stroll around afterwards too. All that’s left to decide is how hot can you handle your chicken? Be warned, don’t attempt this date on a smaller budget, chicken and chips at Kebab Rush is an absolute no go for any date, ever.
Cocktails at The Cosy Club
Tasty fruity cocktails
If you find yourself to be a bit of a cocktail connoisseur or have a date that thinks they are, then this is the perfect choice for a first date. The Cosy Club is upstairs on the outside of the Cathedral Lane Shopping Centre right in the city centre, perfectly place to go after a meal or fun evening of activities! The cocktail menu will dazzle you with its wide choice, you can try a tipple of the English Rose or go fruity with a Black Forest Mojito. You could even have a modern twist on a classic cocktail like the Spiced Pineapple Old Fashioned. The possibilities are endless! Why not enjoy these exotic cocktails in a romantic spot on the terrace perfect for those warm summer nights or sunny Sunday afternoons. And if you get a bit peckish they also do amazing food too.
Indian food served with rice
Pull out all the stops and go fine dining at Coventry’s very own award winning Indian restaurant, Tumeric Gold. Located in the centre of Medieval Coventry on Spon Street, you can have the most authentic Asian experience. Kick off your shoes and sit on a sea of beautifully decorated cushions on the floor nibbling on a platter of king prawns and onion bhajis whilst waiting on the best curry Coventry has to offer! Not only is the food incredible but so is the décor, with the walls and tables surrounded by beautiful ornaments in every nook and cranny. If you fancy a lavish and impressive first date you can’t go wrong with Tumeric Gold.
