After a long 3-hour trip to Cardiff, the Coventry Flames women's basketball team put on an offensive clinic in their 111-58 rout of the Cardiff Met Archers II team in their afternoon match-up on Saturday. From the first quarter, the Flames established their dominance, ending the first frame with a 28-8 lead before extending that lead to a 58-28 half-time lead. Returning from the locker room with maintained focus, the Flames used a 52-28 second half to close out the game.

Sara Benavente (29 points, 11 assists, 12 steals, 9 rebounds), Catarina Seixas (18 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds, 5 steals) and Ya-Awa Touray (17 points, 9 rebounds, 1 block) led the charge for a Flames team that shot a scorching 55% from the field, and went 6-17 from behind the 3-point arc, whilst assisting on 34 of their 47 baskets. However, the team shot only 48% from the free-throw line. Cathrine Gwenero and Eleonara Caska scored 11 points each whilst Alimat Balogun and Mariana Galego added 10 points each to round off the team's double-figure scoring.

"It feels nice to get our first win, and it was a useful game to put we have been training into practice and grow as a team." Seixas said. "We created good shot opportunities and we got scores from those opportunities, something that didn't hapen last Saturday. We also shared the ball very well and worked better together on the defensive end."

Benavente also added "it felt really good [to win]. I think it was one step forward to team improvement."

"It definitely makes the trip worth it to see our team so in sync and work together like that." said a beaming Flames head coach, Rob Eddon, "I've said so far that the potential for this team is sky-high and I'm glad they were able to show a glimpse of that today. We've definitely got to work on our free throws, though."

MVP: Orchestrating the offense with a 2:1 assist-to-turnover turnover ratio, Catarina Seixas tallied a triple double of 18 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds whilst adding 5 steals.

Up Next: Flames women will take on City of Birmingham Rockets in their first game of the Women's National Cup in a home match-up on Saturday, October 23. The winner of this match-up will face either Cardiff Met Archers II or Bromsgrove Bears.
