The Coventry Flames debut performance in the WNBL pit the home team against the visiting West Herts Warriors, which ended in a 54-34 win for the visitors. West Herts' stifling defense held Coventry to less than 30% shooting from the field, whilst scoring 21 of their 54 points from behind the 3-point line.

After a slow first quarter from the Flames that saw them down 17-9, the women rallied using a strong defensive quarter to limit the Warriors to single digit scoring in the second frame. However, the visitors emerged from the locker room after half time with renewed energy and held the Flames to 4 points in the third quarter, putting the game out of reach for Coventry.

Speaking honestly about the game, Flames guard, Sara Benavente, said "I think it was an expected result as it was our first time playing at that level and as a new team." Remaining optimistic about the season, Benavente added, "We can only go up from [here] and we'll do so. It just feels good to be back on court and I'm really grateful to be able to play with [this team]."

Benavente and Catarina Seixas both led the team in scoring, chipping in 10 points each in the loss.

MVP: Sara Benavente earned MVP honors for her 10point, 7 rebound and 14 steal outing, tallying her first double-double of the season.

Up Next: Flames Women will travel to Cardiff next weekend to take on a tough Cardiff Met Archers II on Saturday 16th October. The game will tip at 1pm.
