The CUSU volunteering team held their Coffee and Meet networking event on Tuesday 14 June, on what had to be one of the warmest days of the year so far. It was fortunate that the event took place in the spacious and airy surroundings of The Courtyard in The Hub.

The purpose of the coffee and meet events is to chat to students over a coffee and introduce them to the joys of volunteering, which is something that Coventry students excel at.

Some may look at volunteering as doing a good deed here and there, but it offers so much more. Volunteering can have a positive impact on your life and the lives of those you help.

The students who came along to the event had their own reasons for wanting to find out about volunteering.

Tracy Reay, SU Volunteering and Community Coordinator, said:

“It was good to see some new faces and chat to the students. Some of them were really interested in the opportunities available and used the event to network with others as they feel that volunteering would be a good way to meet new people.

“I can’t emphasise enough how beneficial it is to have volunteering experience on your CV” added Tracy.

“I often say to students that when they go for a job interview after graduation, they might be up against another student from a different university who has the same class of degree but what makes the Coventry student stand out, is the extracurricular activities they have taken part in during their time at university.

“An employer is more impressed to see that a student with a good degree has also got some relevant work experience, which is what you can get through volunteering. It can give you the edge and make you more employable.”

If you didn’t get the chance to come to the coffee and meet event, then do check out the volunteering pages on the SU website and sign up for some of the other opportunities that are coming up.
