#1 Check for signs of damp on walls, ceilings, around windows and behind furniture such as wardrobes
#2 Look out for pests e.g. mice, slugs, & fruit flies - traps, slug trails, droppings, or sounds can be an indication of a problem
#3 Think about location - is it close enough to walk to Uni or if not is it close to public transport links?
#4 Safety & security - look for properties on well-lit roads with working fire alarms, safe electrical sockets, and secure locks on all doors & windows
#5 Look at appliances & white goods - clarify if they're supplied, if so check they are in good condition and sufficient to cater for everyone living in the property
#6 Test the water supply by opening taps, running showers and flushing toilets to check they work properly
#7 Ask about furnishings and fittings (e.g. sofas, wardrobes etc.) to clarify if they would be included if you moved in
#8 Think about insulation - Check for double gazed windows, secure doors, no drafty areas, and a good heating system
#9 Talk with current tenants as they can give an unbiased and realistic account of what it's like to live there
