Are you guilty (as most of us are) of walking down the street with your phone in your hand and not having a care in the world? Perhaps not having a clue who is around you and being distracted while facetiming a friend? You may not realise it at the time, but what you are doing is making yourself a key target for thieves. If you’re not quite sure how to do this… voilà look no further than this article and keep reading to reveal some useful tips!

Tip #1: Make sure you are aware of your surroundings!

When you allow yourself to be distracted, you become a prime target for burglars and it only takes a matter of seconds for them to run off with your belongings. So keep your eyes open and know exactly who is around you.

Tip #2: Keep your valuables out of sight!

A burglar will make the most of any opportunity, especially when it comes to expensive goods such as laptops, tablets and phones. So be wise about where you leave your items and keep them hidden away where possible.

Tip #3: Avoid walking by yourself at night.

We all know that there is safety in numbers and so do burglars. Obviously, I’m not telling students not to go out at night, but if you do go out make sure you go with friends!

Tip #4: Register your electronics on WWW.IMMOBILISE.COM

After stealing other people’s belongings, a lot of burglars will try to sell them off to make quick money. Any registered stolen items that are checked will be flagged up and the police will be alerted. It’s definitely worth doing as it could be what helps find a stolen item!

Tip #5: Know that you are worth more than your valuables!

If you are stopped by muggers who are willing to harm you, just give them your items. Make a note of your location and anything nearby (e.g. cashpoints and shops) to report to the Police and register your items as stolen on OK guys, I know that the thought of having your iPhone or fancy android phone stolen is frustrating, but remember that your life and personal safety is always the top priority!

At the end of the day, I’m not saying that Coventry is an unsafe city to live in, but it’s always best not to take chances when it comes to your safety. Know that you don’t have to be martial arts expert to keep safe – just be ready to outsmart burglars by following these useful tips!
