As part of developing our sports clubs and developing relationships with the community and volunteering groups, Samuel Lewis (CUSU Sports Coordinator) and 3 members of the Pool and Snooker club visited the Enterprise Disabled Club in Coventry. This is a small community group of around 100 members of varying disability who participate in a variety of activities. Two of these activities are pool and snooker.
On the night, Matt Davis-Skeggs, Brandon Wilson and Peter Knighton from the University club challenged their community group users to various games of pool and snooker throughout the evening as well as socialising through playing the sport they enjoy. The Pool and Snooker club members were fantastic through the evening with their attitude, enthusiasm and their support in helping users play the games. There was also heated competition between players which made for a fantastic competition.
The evening culminated in giving Enterprise club users hats and scarves as part of the visit which went down very well (especially given the sudden cold weather)!!
The night was a great success, not only on the pool and snooker tables, but also to bring University students closer to the local community.
Future plans, are to have regular visits to the centre to keep the competition going, with the potential of the university club raising funds for the community organisation as part of the fundraising work the club is looking to do.
