Keeping Safe at Night

Protect yourself against danger and end your night right with our safety tips, designed to shield you from possible situations of vulnerability.

#1. ?DONT GIVE THEM A SCARE, KEEP THEM AWARE!

This most certainly is the golden rule! Whenever you are going out, make sure your family and/or close friends know exactly where you are and when you should be getting back. Should something go wrong, aided by the knowledge of your whereabouts, family and friends may be able to take action fast; however, take this knowledge away, and they will not be able to spot when a situation is just not right. Ever been in trouble for staying out late? We've all been there, but keeping your whereabouts unknown could reap much larger consequences

#2. IS THIS TAXI FOR ME?

Unfortunately cases of regular cars posing as taxis have occured and these cases often do not end well. Stop and think, would you get into a stranger's car? I'm sure the answer is no so let this be no exception. Do your research before stepping into somebody elses vehicle, as you never know where you could be taken. Protect yourself and pre-book a verified taxi on a night out and if the number plates don't match, don't get in!

#3. BADLY LIT? NOT WORTH IT!

Saving a few minutes on your walk back home may sound like a good idea at first but it's not always the best option. Despite getting home faster, you may run into trouble on your way if you choose a dark, isolated area to walk through. To keep yourself protected, stick to well lit and populated routes as this will deter possible instances from occuring.

#4. WHEN GETTING HOME, GET IN THE ZONE

If you need to travel via public transport, ensure that you are aware of where you're going and what time the bus or train will arrive. Make sure you are in view of security cameras while travelling and if using the bus try to sit closer to where the bus driver is.

#5. VALUABLES IN PLAIN SIGHT? CARE TO KEEP THEM?

Carrying any sort of expensive item on you can make you a target for theft. If it's not needed, leave it at home and while there put it away! The latest phone or gadget may catch somebody elses eye so keep them close and hidden.

#6. DON'T NEED ALL YOUR MONEY? LEAVE IT BE!

Taking all your money out with you could leave you with none by the end of the night. Only take what is needed in cash and leave any bank or cash cards at home. This could help limit the risk of having all your money stolen and as a bonus helps keep your spending for the night in check!

#7. ALWAYS HAVE A MEANS OF CONTACT

Make sure you take a FULLY CHARGED phone out with you, and if neccesary carry a power bank to charge it while you are out! Carrying a phone at all times allows you to signal for help should you need it as well as book a taxi, keep in contact with your friends and family. Don't find yourself in a difficult situation alone, always carry with you your phone!
