Volunteering in the Community

As part of your add+vantage module, you can choose to volunteer in the community. This opportunity involves you volunteering at a community centre, non-profit organisations or local volunteering/ community based agencies.

You will be required to volunteer on a regular basis for a minimum of 30 hours

Placements in Schools

Placements in Schools offers you first hand experience in a classroom environment. This module will allow you to build skills required for becoming an effective communicator or gaining skills before pursuing a career in teaching.

Students' Union Work Experience: Sport and Societies

This module is to enable prospective and existing sports members representing the Students' Union and the University to formalise their experience.

British Sign Language

At CUSU, we now offering students the opportunity to learn Sign Language. You have the chance to learn the basics of British Sign Language, also giving module participants the opportunity to learn about the theory behind the development of sign language and will consider the different technologies used in by those who are deaf or have hearing impairments

This module will be of particular interest to students who want to develop skills in British Sign Language, enabling them to communicate on a basic level to those who are deaf or have a hearing impairment. It will also develop transferable skills in interpersonal skills; effective communication skills and adaptability.

New for this academic year Level 2 and Level 3 Intermediate British Sign Language*

Course participants will consider the different technologies used by those who are deaf or have hearing impairments. They will also consider the recent changes made to Support Services to the deaf community. This module will be of particular interest to students who want to develop skills in British Sign Language, enabling them to communicate to an intermediate level to those who are deaf.

*pre-requisites for Intermediate British Sign Language. You must have completed Introduction to British Sign Language (A104CSU/A109CSU or A209CSU) or equivalent as per assessment by module leader to qualify for Intermediate British Sign Language

Responsible Business Practice

This module will give students a broad consideration of and a unique understanding of the meaning, context and practical implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability in the work place. CSR and Sustainability is now a key factor in business strategies for major industries and something all students would benefit from having an understanding of.

Our short term work experience placements allow you to gain first hand schools experience that can fit around your studies

Our placements range from 10-30 hours which usually consists of 1-2 hours per week.
