Activity Leader

This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.

For those with a specific interest and/or skills in music, drama, games, sports, arts and crafts, there are opportunities to help lead a specific activity at camp. This role is undertaken whilst also being a team mate. Team Mates support campers throughout their time at Camp, building fantastic relationships whilst encouraging, inspiring and empowering campers as they complete camp activities. You will be part of a team of other amazing Volunteers, having fun and creating amazing experiences!

We do this by providing free of charge, transformative activity camps throughout the UK. We create an inclusive environment where children and young people can be themselves, thrive and grow. Rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, Over The Wall Camps provide a fun and safe environment for children and young people, building their confidence and self-esteem whilst exceptional medical care ensures our unique ability to cater for more than 130 different conditions. We aim to empower children with health challenges to become the hero of their own story.

Knowing the transformative impact role models can have, we want to ensure that our volunteers are reflective of our campers in terms of visible and non-visible disabilities, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity and all other characteristics. 

Residential Camps 

Health Challenge & Siblings Camps 

Our Health Challenge & Siblings Camps are magical places where campers take part in fun activities including Sports and Games, Drama, Arts and Crafts and Discovery. Campers will be divided into teams based on their age groups of 8-10, 11-13, 13-15 and 15-17 years of age. Team mates help create a fun, safe and supportive environment for children with health challenges and their siblings to try new things, have amazing impactful experiences, build confidence and time for reflection on all their achievements. You will be part of a team of other incredible volunteers and will need a sense of fun with an energetic, enthusiastic and positive approach. If you are looking for an amazing and rewarding experience where you can make a real difference in young people’s lives, whilst developing your skills in communication, team work and creativity, then apply to be a Team Mate now! Camp is four days long and you will be required to arrive one day early for training. We will give you all the necessary training and support and provide your accommodation and food for the duration of camp.  

Family Camps 

Family camps provide a fun and engaging environment at camp for families to let their hair down, have fun and experience some amazing memories together. As a Team Mate you will join a family and be part of their magical journey at camp. You will provide support, play games, be an ear to listen and be an integral part to families reconnecting and having an awesome time together and with other families. Family camps are two days long, you will need to arrive at 10am of the first day where we will provide you with all the training you need, accommodation and food is provided for the whole of camp. If you love having fun, being part of a team and creating rewarding experiences sign up for one of our family camps.

Hours details

Over The Wall camps are residential over a range of 2-5 nights. Our Volunteers are required to attend the day before our Campers arrive for training, team building & preparation.

Training available

Volunteers receive up to 2 days training including topics such as safeguarding, behaviour empowerment techniques, information about how to implement Therapeutic Recreation, along with activities designed to develop their team building skills. We also cover Over The Wall Policies and Procedures and details about the activities they will be involved in during camp.

Transport details

Volunteers have to make their own way to camp, however we provide transport to and from the nearest train station at specific times.

Time commitment

Over The Wall camps are residential over a range of 2-5 nights.

Support

At all camps Over The Wall provide around 6 staff members who form the 'staff support team'. The Support Team are on hand to offer emotional and practical support throughout camp to volunteers. Volunteers will also have a 'Team Leader' as part of their volunteer team who will also offer support.

Expenses

We do not pay travel expenses for Volunteers but all food and accommodation is provided for the duration of camp.
