Scarborough Wellbeing Cafe Volunteer
This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.
We are looking for people to join our team of volunteers, serving lunch and chatting to people with dementia and their carers at our weekly café.
The cafe takes place on Thursday afternoons from 1pm until 3pm at St Andrew's Church Hall on Ramshill Road, Scarborough. Volunteers welcome people to the group, help serve refreshments and then support people to take part in activities or sit and chat. It's a lovely role that will suit anyone who is a people person and who recognises the importance of community and companionship for people living with dementia. There is no need for volunteers to do every week, as we run a rota, and no experience is necessary - just an empathy for people living with dementia and a friendly, flexible attitude.
The group runs from 1pm until 3pm with half an hour either side for setting up and clearing.
We provide an induction, including details of our policies and procedures and dementia awareness.

Benefits to self
The role would be helpful for anyone looking to go into a caring role in the future. It is also very rewarding supporting people in the local community and can help develop people skills.
Benefits to others
We support people living with dementia to continue to be involved in their local community. Our cafes offer a welcoming place for people to go on a weekly basis and can be a lifeline to them.
Volunteers do not need to commit to any set number of sessions per month, but as the sign up process takes some time and we are providing training, we do not recruit volunteers who want temporary roles or one-off opportunities.
Our café is supported by two members of staff, who are onhand to support volunteers at the group. In addition we have a volunteer coordinator.
We do not pay travel expenses to our services.
