We offer a sitting/befriending service to Carers and isolated people across the local area
This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.
The sitting service provides, with the help of volunteers, practical and emotional help for carers. To enable carers to have a break from their caring role.
The role of the volunteer is to provide companionship and the social support of a friend.
All volunteers have references taken and are DBS checked to enchanced level.
The volunteers do not do any personal care, give medication or lifting. They are their as a friend.
Hours per week
An hour or two every week or fortnight.
At the introduction between a volunteer, the carer and the person they are sitting with an initial follow up date and time is arranged. If all parties are in agreement this can be flexible.
We do not offer any compulsory training. If an opportunity for training does arise ie. Dementia/First Aid our volunteers are given an opportunity to take part in the course.
Londesborough Road Business Park, Scarborough.
Benefits to self
The work we do offers a rewarding sense of satisfaction and you will be giving carers a well deserved couple of hours break from their caring responsibilities.
Benefits to others
Just an hour or two of your time can make such a big difference for a carer knowing that their cared for has some company.
Some volunteers choose to use their own cars to travel to and from the Carers home but it is not essential.
There is no length of time commitment from volunteers.
We are happy for our volunteers to contact us by telephone/text/email if they require any support or guidance.
Support for Carers will reimburse fuel costs at 38p per mile.
