Are you a current student studying at Coventry University, CU Coventry, CU Scarborough, CU London or Coventry University London? Are you looking to expand your experience and build leadership skills? Do you have a drive for strategic and governing decision making? Can you critically discuss the future of a multimillion pound turnover charity and help to make the best decisions for our students? We are looking for self-motivated and highly committed individuals to become our next Student Trustees.
As a Student Trustee you will provide crucial insight into the experiences of current students across the Coventry University Group. You will be making decisions and influencing the strategic direction of the Union and development of our services for our members.
There will be opportunities for you to be involved with a wide range of topics, covering the full breadth of offerings from CUSU in both charity and commercial areas.
You must be a skilled communicator, willing to constructively challenge and influence discussion in a committee based environment. This post requires you to prepare suitably for any Board meetings, ensuring that you are ready to contribute and influence. You must be passionate about working with students in a democratic environment and be willing to be a brand ambassador for CUSU.
The Term of Office for a Student Trustee is 1 year with the opportunity to continue for another year dependent on involvement and continued eligibility.
Eligibility Note: only current Coventry University Group Students not employed by the Students’ Union are eligible to apply and fill these posts.
There will also be opportunities for Student Trustees to sit on sub committees as full members.
- Ensure CUSU complies with its governing documents, relevant legislation and acts in pursuit of its objectives.
- Regularly evaluate the performance and effectives of the organisation, CEO and Board.
- Actively contribute to Board discussions and helping the board reach consensus to make decisions.
- Act as a role model for CUSU, embodying the values of the Union and promoting the interests of our members on a local, national and international platform.
- Provide a student perspective on the board, adhering to all CUSU policies.

Board meetings will take place 4 – 6 times a year, usually on a Friday afternoon.
Training will be provided upon commencement of the role.
Meetings occur remotely, there are in person days such as an away day or the Christmas Meal

Approximately 30 hours across the year.
All meetings will have full time staff support. The Chair of the Trustee Board will be available to support you with any questions regarding the documents and/or the meetings.
