About International Disaster Concern
Who are we?
We're the society for Disaster Management, Geography, Natural Hazards and Engineering students or any student interested in disaster, emergency preparedness, poverty and what can be learned from their study.
What do we do?
Raise funds and awareness for charities projects our members choose. Provide a network for students and practitioners to engage academically and socially in a comfortable environment. Put on events and activities to help our members develop and realise their goals and aspirations. We aim to create a sense of community and home away from home, to support each other with both university and personal life.
Why should you join?
To support projects you're passionate about, to develop a network of like-minded students and professionals, and to take part in local, national, and international activities. Most importantly meet new people and make friends. We are very member-driven so we encourage you to feedback ideas and suggestions and we will help you make that a reality.
What have we done in the past?
We offer a mixture of industry-focused and social events. These include guest speakers from a ray of different organizations from charities, government officials, and the emergency services. We organize trips to conferences and events such as the International Disaster Response Expo, a tour of the National Grid Emergency Planning Control Room and we also aim to hold a trip abroad that has previously been to Amsterdam. The social events we have previously held include the annual Viking Bar Crawl, pub quizzes, and games nights. We will often involve fundraising into these events and have raised money for charities such as RedR.
