The Student Tutoring scheme is perfect for aspiring teachers or students considering teaching/education as a potential career. The project places volunteers into classrooms across Coventry supporting qualified teachers in different subjects. The placement is perfect work experience relevant for teacher training applications. 

Volunteering Opportunity

  • One of the most popular volunteering opportunities offered by V&E, the Student Tutoring scheme is flexible to your time commitment, places you in the subject area of your choice and the type of school you prefer, (primary or secondary) where possible. Throughout the scheme we will train you, place you and support you to help you decide if teaching is for you!
  • Volunteers must commit to a minimum of 2 hours a week to undertake this position. The placement will begin in the Spring term and will last a minimum of 10 weeks from January onwards.

Where and When

  • Local primary and secondary schools in Coventry.
  • A minimum of 2 hours per week for 10 weeks at a mutually agreed time between the volunteer and the school, in the Spring term from January onwards.


  • Register with us before Tuesday 19th November 2013.
  • A DBS (formerly CRB or Criminal Records) check which we will process for you.
  • A good level of spoken and written English.
  • Reliability
  • Enthusiasm for working with children.

Important notice: Student Tutoring volunteering is now currently full, places may become available but it is not likely to be until next academic year 2014/15.  We are happy to put you on a waiting list and inform you should we be recruiting again.  If you would like to be put on the waiting list please email to express your interest in this project.
