This page provides advice and support relating to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. This advice is specifically aimed at students of Coventry University, CU Coventry, CU Scarborough, and CU London.

University Support

The university has a dedicated page on the Student Portal for advice and support in relation to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Students should use this page as a first point of reference for information from the university about COVID-19.

Students' Union Services

All Students Union services are still operating, services are transitioning to digital delivery, some events have been postponed or cancelled.

All Campuses

The Advice Centre (SUAC)

If you need advice, please email suadvice@coventry.ac.uk, provide your name, student ID number, a contact telephone number, and brief details about your issue. An advisor will contact you. We aim to respond to most enquiries within two working days.

We are not currently offering face-to-face appointments, though advisors will be available to attend hearings, and will be able to offer support via electronic communication.

Coventry Campus

Where possible services will be delivered remotely: via email, live stream, online chat, and Microsoft Teams.

Employability

If you need support with a CUSU Add+vantage Module, School Placement, Volunteering linked to a module, the Leadership Awards, BSL or CUSU Awards, please email employability.su@coventry.ac.uk with your name, student ID number, a contact telephone number, and brief details about your enquiry. We aim to respond to most enquiries within 1 working day.

We are not currently offering face-to-face appointments, although your CUSU tutors will be on line during scheduled teaching sessions for you to ask questions. Specific details of how to access this will come through your Moodle channels so please check there for additional information.

Equity and Diversity

We have dedicated officers representing our BAME, LGBTQ+, Women, Students With Responsibilities, Self-Supporting Students and Disabled Students communities. We will be running online chats and activities over the coming weeks to support these groups.

Safer Living

Societies

There is currently no face-to-face society activity, this will be reviewed on 6th April 2020. We are working with societies on ways to engage their members virtually.

Sport

All training, recreational sessions and fixtures have been postponed until at least 6th April 2020. We are taking advice from the Government, national governing bodies and BUCS. We will update all clubs and members when we have more information.

Student Leadership

Student Voice

Student Voice Forums will be held online. If you are a rep, you should have an invite to a group on Microsoft Teams where you will be able to continue your roles virtually. Senior Course Rep 121s and Student Voice Working Groups will also take place online.

Volunteering

There is currently no face-to-face volunteering activity organised by the Volunteering team. If you have signed up to participate in a Make A Difference Day you be contact individually.

You can participate in online volunteering opportunities.

If you are applying to volunteer with one of our charity partners please be patient and expect delays in communication. Our partners will advise on individual activities when possible.

Wellbeing and Mental Health

We will be offering a series of online activities and support, you can sign up to our newsletter, or follow us on Instagram or Facebook.

Student Wellbeing

We understand this is a stressful time for many of our members and it's important to take care of your mental wellbeing as well as physical.

MIND, the mental health support charity, have shared advice for maintining your mental wellbeing particularly if you have any anxieties about coronavirus, are practising social distancing, or have been advised to self-isolate.

Social Distancing and Self-Isolation

We are currently working on a program of activities to support students who may be isolated socially including online gaming (both digital and tabletop), watch parties, and streaming events.

Events

All face-to-face events have been cancelled or postponed until at least 6th April 2020. We are currently developing a programme of online activity.

The wellbeing of event attendees is the top priority. Should an event be cancelled or rescheduled we thank you for your understanding.

What should I do if I feel ill?

If in the UK you should follow the guidance of the UK government and Public Health England.

The current advice is to stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms. Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. There is no need to call 111 unless you feel unable to cope with your symptoms, your condition worsens, or your symptoms do not get better after 7 days. If you are outside the UK you should follow the guidance of your local government.
