As we approach our assessment deadlines here at Coventry University, the pressure feels intense, as does the need to find a good work-life balance. This, among many other factors, contributes to the overwhelming feelings experienced by students during this time of the semester.

Academic pressure is the stress and strain that can appear in the university's learning process, with its intensity varying from student to student. While academic pressure can drive determination, excessive amounts can be detrimental.

What are some causes of academic pressure?

  1. Poor organization and time management
  2. Multiple courseork deadlines approaching
  3. External pressures
  4. Self-imposed expectations
  5. Financial strain

While academic pressure is a common challenge, it's important to remember that you don't have to face it alone. Here are some examples of coping strategies and useful support services

Coping Strategies:

  1. Practice time management and organization to better handle workload.
  2. Engage in regular exercise and relaxation techniques to reduce stress.
  3. Seek support from friends, family, or mentors who can provide encouragement and perspective.
  4. Break tasks into smaller, manageable steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
  5. Maintain a balanced lifestyle by prioritizing self-care activities such as hobbies and leisure time.

  2. The student success coaches are here to help you make the most out of your time at Coventry University. To make an appointment with a coach, click here (opens new window)or come into the Coach House on weekdays between 9AM and 5PM, located next to the shop on the ground floor of the Hub.
  3. Coventry University has partnered with software platform Vygo to introduce peer support and mentoring to all students from day one.
  4. Online resources: Explore online forums, articles, and self-help guides that offer tips and strategies for managing academic stress such as our guides located on our Advice pages: Wellbeing & Support (yoursu.org).

On Wednesday the 27th March I will be hosting a Mental Health Panel Talk CEES: Mental Health Panel Talk (yoursu.org) where you can hear from like minded people to discuss the challenges and pressures students face.
