Christmas cheer for children – thanks to YOU!
A big thank you to all of you who responded to our Christmas Shoebox Appeal, 2020.
The aim of the appeal was to make Christmas a little brighter for families in Coventry who have very little and for whom the promise of Christmas is not full of cheer.
This year has been like no other. The pandemic, the subsequent lockdowns, the effect on the economy, the slump in the job market and funding streams for charities seeing drastic cuts. This has meant that we need to make sure our communities are well served and those in the most need looked after.
We had more than 30 students and staff from across the university offering their time and support to fill the boxes with the items you donated, which is truly amazing, and we managed to distribute approximately twenty shoeboxes which will certainly put a smile on a child’s face over the festive period.
This year we are supporting two charities; Carriers of Hope, which is a Coventry based charity that supports some of the most destitute people in our community; refugees, asylum seekers and other people arriving and living in the city, and Panahghar, who provide safe emergency and supported refuge for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic survivors of domestic, sexual abuse, and their children.
With the promise of a vaccination on the horizon and more things hopefully getting back to something near normal, we are hoping that in 2021, there will be more opportunities for you to volunteer that are not online and will give you the chance to work within the community with more charities.
Thank you to all of you who volunteered your time this year and we look forward to working with you in the New Year.
