                                                                       LGBT+History Month 2020 Is Here!

The overall aim of LGBT+ History month is to promote LGBT+ rights, inclusion and history. This is done by increasing the visibility of LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, plus) people, their history, lives and their experiences; raising awareness and advancing education on matters affecting the LGBT+ community; working to make educational and other institutions safe spaces for all LGBT+ communities; and promoting the welfare of LGBT+ people.
2020’s LGBT History Month theme is ‘Prose, Poetry and Plays’, the three pillars which frame what we understand as literature. Literature created by LGBT writers acts as a gateway into understanding the landscape for LGBT people of the time.  By learning about our history we can better comprehend where we are as a community today.
The LGBT+ Community alongside the LGBTQIA+ Society have created a wide range of events this year that are open to all: staff, students, friends, and the wider community. The LGBT+ Student Community theme this year is 'Shaping The Future' and thats exactly what we intend to do with you at CUSU...

Events this year include:

  • Spilled Tea; Poetry & Performance Night- We're bringing you a poetry evening with some of the best LGBTQIA+ spoken word artists in the UK including multi award-winning artist Jackie Hagan. Not only that, the night will include a performance of 'The Woman Who Works in Lidl Fancies Me' - A physical theatre piece with a difference - PLUS free vegan food from 'Dirty Kitch'
