"The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities." (United Nations)

Now more than ever, the importance and value of building welcoming and inclusive communities are vital; we've had a lot of time separated from one another and now the world is starting to open back up, these friendships can continue to grow and strengthen.

At CUSU, we've always known how important Societies are in improving the student experience and allowing students across the entire University to make new friends and form new relationships. As a student, you generally make friends with course-mates, flat-mates/neighbours and those who you meet in other groups including societies. Joining a society during your out-of-study hours is one of the best ways to find people with shared interests, skills and passions! Fellow society members will come from a wide range of varying races, gender identities, cultures and more; you may meet somebody from a country or town you've never even heard of! Who knows, maybe they'll become one of your closest, lifelong friends.

This International Day of Friendship, we encourage you all to have a look at the large range of societies CUSU has to offer. If there isn't an active society that interests you, take a look at our societies that are available for adoption, or come to the Societies team to set up your own!
